Customer ratings and reviews for HP Scanjet G4050 Photo Scanner

Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent scanner for negatives I scanned 40 year old wedding negatives that were medium format, 6cm x 7 cm or 2.25" x 2.75". The G4050 did an excellent job and I only used the HP software. I selected restore colors, adaptive lighting for more contrast, and remove dust and scratches. No further adjustments were required. The 8x10 prints I made at Costco were excellent. HP also just reduced the price so it is an excellent buy. January 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Exceeds my expectations!!! This scanner is easy to use. The clarity is excellent. I've used it for color photos, black/white drawings, and PDF files, with great results for all! January 27, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by good for my needs Would appreciate a more detailed owner's manual to help with the feature (slides to prints) that I needed most. The HP service rep was very helpful. Without his help I would have never figured out what I needed to do to complete the project I was working on. If there was more detail in the manual (my need was not addressed) it would have been helpful. Illustrations would be helpful also. January 23, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great Hardware, but Software disappoints The scanner is great and installation (Windows 7) was easy. Initial use of scanning software was great; however, the moment I used higher resolutions and more specific features (making the HW stand out), it started to either fail doing anything, stopped working and presented me with stupid messages like start over, re-install and other things - which I did but 10 hours later I got the same results. I purchased vuescan and it works like a charm - however, some cool HW features the scanner got and HP's software featured are not supported so I wonder if I should have bought a product from some other vendor. Too bad - HP risks their reputation for great products! January 11, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Doesn't work consistently on slides. I bought the scanner primarily for 35 MM slides and it just doesn't seem to work. Many of the jpg files generated have a yellow tint covering all or a portion of the picture. I tried installing the software on 3 different computers, used different scan settings in the software and moved slides around in the template provided. I talked to technical support. They were very nice, but couldn't solve the problem. Pictures scanned fine. January 6, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Noisy, slow Software terrible. Takes over 45 seconds to scan a 3.5" x4.5" item. Old Hp scanner I had did it in 10 seconds. Force me to look for 3rd party software. Scanner is noiser than old one. Hp going backwards in development. Never again... December 27, 2012
