Customer ratings and reviews for HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

Rated 5 out of 5 by Everyday Use Good quality, easy to install, easy to use, features for everyday personal or professional use December 30, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Highly recommended HP has really hit the nail on the head with this printer, more so than ever before. I’ve used HP printers for 15+ years; at home, at work and at the home office. While I’ve been generally satisfied, I would rate my previous printers (an Officejet Pro 7410 and a Deskjet 932C) as no more than “adequate”. These previous printers have been functional with mediocre driver support and over-priced ink. Moving to the Officejet Pro 7410 was a huge step up in productivity and I would never settle for anything less than an all-in-one now. That printer came out in the Vista era, and as an avid hardware enthusiast, I upgraded to Win7 on day one. Since this OS came out after the printer, driver support was poor and I frequently had to reinstall the drivers to get things to work. Also, printing from my iPads was not an option with that printer. I recently noticed that there was a sale at (the retailer named after the device that fastens sheets of paper together with a metal clip) for the Officejet Pro 8600 plus for 100 simoleans off MSRP. I took the plunge mainly for the Airprint support for the iPads. With this printer, HP has made HUGE strides in design, functionality and ease-of-use. Set up on my wired Ethernet connection was quick and painless and getting my Win7 64-bit setup was also easy. HP has taken a lot of cues from Apple in interface design and the improvement really shines in this hardware and software. The second aspect I appreciated was the separate color cartridges and I hope this translates to reduced ink costs. The only area I would rate this printer down is in its web based management interface, as this has not received the interface updates that the rest of the printer has. Win7 does not like the fact that all of the security certificates are not squared away and most of the screens have angry red highlights. I have also been impressed with HPs ePrint functionality. If I receive an email on my phone with an attachment I’d like to print, I simply forward it to my special HP ePrint address and it prints like magic. Overall I’d rate this printer as a 9 or 9.5 out of 10 and I highly recommend it! December 29, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by functions just as advertised I bought this printer because I had a 3 year old HP 7280 all-in-one which still worked just fine. But my experience has been that about 3 years is the limit for my former printers. While dismantling the 7280 I discovered a black ink cartridge had leaked and left messy ink all over the printer stand. I couldn't see it until it was moved. Pretty messy but cleaned up OK. The 8600 plus functions just as advertised and works just fine. I'm happy I upgraded. HP has always been my choice in printers. December 24, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Don't like envelope handling The HP 8600 replaces an Officejet L7780. I like the 8600 very much more - better setup, better features, and seems faster and quieter but the envelope handling is worst. I print a lot of 1 time envelopes. With the L7780, I just flipped up a cover over tray 1 and put an envelope on top of the paper on the right side and it printed. Now I need to pull out tray 1, remove all of the paper, insert envelopes in the center of the tray, center the paper aliening slides, reinsert the tray and now I can print 1 envelope. Seems like a step backward. December 24, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Too New to really evaluate The only thing I need is a manuel in my hand on how to get this printer to do what I want.. As a less than skillful computor user it is rather complicated to try to get it to do what I want it to. I can never remember where the manuel is on your website. I ususlly use only the basic tasks but wanted to do more complicated things like double face printing so that maybe I can print out the 250 page manual on approx. 130 pages. December 19, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Really fast printer This is a really fast printer and is a new bronze color. I tested it in the store by printing a page from the feeder at the same time on the HP 8600 Pro (cheaper) and this HP 8600 Plus prints almost twice as fast. It is also much quieter and has a larger touch screen which is a bonus since I am 65 and need my glasses for many things now. I had first purchased the HP 6500 all-in-one but it was so noisy, slow and immediately got stuck on the fax feature so I returned it. I was going to buy the 8600 Pro but it seemed noisy too and the screen was too small so I treated myself by paying a little more and chose this one. I got it on sale at an office supply store and they gave me $50 for my old printer that I had kept which was out of warranty, so the price was right. I love this printer and it works the way it should. You can use the wireless feature and print from any room but I use the USB cable. The feed tray is larger than most and is slanted so the paper is assured of being picked up by the feeder. Yay! The tray holds 250 sheets of paper eliminating the need to refill so often. You can email and print photos directly from the printer without using the computer at all. Setup was very fast, did not need the help of HP at all unlike the 6500. I would say if you have a home office pay the extra money and get quality features that will actually help you get your work done faster. The cons are unlike the photo, it is taller than other printers so better measure your space before buying. Great printer! December 18, 2011
