Rated 1 out of 5Â by JustMe12345 Quit After 6 Weeks
After my Pavilion laptop was in for repairs 3 times while under warranty, HP sent me this Envy as a replacement. My case manager was wonderful - very helpful with "speed of light" response time.
Unfortunately, the Envy quit after just 6 weeks. All of a sudden, I lost my Internet connection and got an error message indicating a major problem with the WiFi card. Thinking it must be a false error message, I tried to restart the laptop. I thought sure that everything would be fine again after rebooting. But it was not.
The laptop would not restart. I turned it off and tried to turn it back on again. It powered up, and I could hear the DVD player spin up, but there was no display and the keyboard would not light up. I tried multiple times to get the laptop to start with no luck. So it has been shipped back to HP for repair under warranty.
This Envy is my third HP laptop in 2 years and also the third to develop a significant problem during the warranty period. I have now lost confidence in HP products altogether.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by matt72 very good tech and getting used to windows 8
This laptop has very good performance and excellent features. The only thing to get used to is windows 8. Windows 8 is not as bad as everyone says, it just takes some getting used to.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by AngelL What more can go wrong?
The laptop sounds like it has great specs. This was actually a replacement, and ended up being a nightmare for me. After months and months of trying to get my original laptop fixed no luck. I ended up eventually finding the right person with the wrong product. Michael which was my Case Manager was amazingly hopeful and tried his best to meet my needs. did an amazing job, took his time to meet every spec and features i wanted. The laptop gave me problems as soon as I removed it from the box. I was stuck on the blue screen for about 2 to 3 days and massive system recoveries later it finally became usable. It seems fast but I run into random lags or system decides to give an update and will stay stuck on the updating screen. When ever I try to watch a movie it also randomly freezes. Laptop is very buggy and I'm not blaming him or any customer service representative. beside their job isn't building the actual product, it's handling customers with satisfactions. I needed a laptop with enough power to handle my music recording/ Photography and even though this fits into my needs it didn't work out.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by DaftTron Good computer, some poor features, and windows 8
Overall, this is a good computer. Performance is good, and has good features. For the sake of time and space, I will not be review its components unless there is a certain pro of con to it (example: I will not review the CPU or RAM capacity).
Start up is fast
great computer for about 1,000 dollars
Has some nice performance applications (e.g. rapidstart, coolsense, HP 3D drivegard)
Decent for gaming
Windows 8 pros:
charms bar (with a convenient search)
Windows 8.1 updates
You can right click on the start button instead of going to the start menu.
I hardly ever go to the start menu anymore
It still has it older features and some are even better than before (Run, search, command prompt, etc.)
Windows 8.1 will update to the old start menu :D
WHY I BOUGHT IT:
subwoofers (Don't buy it for this, see below.)*
webcam and internal microphone array
blu-ray player/CD burner
upgradability (You can add more RAM and another hard drive)
Many annoying default settings (screen brightness auto adjust, function key set backwards)
Bloatware (Every computer has this as far as I know)
Some apps, which I never use, take RAM space immediately after I startup (e.g. Reader, reading list). It isn't a huge deal though.
Windows 8 cons:
start menu with tiles (but it has its pros)
apps (I like to see everything on my desktop)
*BEATS AUDIO/SUBWOOFER IS NOT WORTH BUYING THIS COMPUTER OVER ANOTHER:
The worst con is probably the Beats audio. When Beats audio is turned on, all it does is turn the bass all the way up. When it is off, the bass is turned way down. And not matter what, whenever I plug any audio peripheral into the headphone jack, there is an auto audio leveling feature that adjusts the audio to one constant level. This means that you cannot adjust application audio, internet website audio, or even game audio! You can only adjust audio levels with the computer mixer. HOWEVER, Beats also turns up the low volume parts of music and turns down the high volume parts. This leaves music sounding bad. So much for hearing music the way the artist intended.
I finally disable the IDT audio driver, which is the Beats audio driver, and enable the high definition audio driver. Now I can use the headphone jack without the audio adjusting itself. However, now the subwoofers in my laptop do not work. So DO NOT buy this computer for its built-in 4 speakers and 2 subwoofer, and definitely not for Beats audio.
GAMEPLAY IS PRETTY DECENT:
I can play Minecraft with medium settings, and I can record my gameplay with 720p at 2000 kb/sec. I am still working on optimizing my recording quality and performance.
If you are looking for a good performance computer for gaming or high performance for about 1,000 dollars, this might be the computer for you. However, its built in audio adds nothing to this computer over another computer.
This computer is very decent for gameplay.
It has some good features and some annoying features. You will have to mess around with settings to optimize it for yourself.
Even though Windows 8 annoys me, I would still buy it because it will be updated, and I thought I might as well get used to it. I want to stay flexible.
Overall, I would recommend this computer UNLESS you are going to buy it just for the Beats audio and/or speaker/subwoofer system.
