Customer ratings and reviews for HP ENVY 17t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC

Rated 5 out of 5 by No complaints This laptop has a super fast processor and everything works as it should. The most important thing I found to enhance ease of use was to switch on rollerball for the touchpad mouse. January 22, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fast computer I've always like HP computers. The only feature I don't like is Windows 8. Other than Windows 8, it's a great computer. January 18, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Excellent Machine despite Windoze 8 I am enjoying every aspect of my new HP. I have only two complaints. The first has nothing to do with the machine itself. I absolutely hate windows 8. I want the start menu back. I also want the option to run all the programs that came with it in a window on the desktop instead of full screen in the start screen. The second complaint does have to do with the machine. I can't believe that you've done away with the svga port. I have an older monitor that doesn't have an hdmi interface. I can't use it with this machine. I didn't understand that when I bought it. January 17, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice big screen, powerful The HP 17 quad notebook is a beast! I like the nice big screen but am having trouble getting used to the funky built in mouse and flat keyboard. I wish I had gotten the touch screen. Think I'll go out and get a wireless mouse and keyboard. I also had a hard time getting used to Windows 8.1, but after a few weeks of use, I think I have figured it out. January 15, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by WARNING: NOT NVIDIA CARD One of the primary reasons that I purchased this product is because the specifications listed "NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory". I mistook this to mean that the video card in the laptop was actually an nVidia card. IT' IS NOT! It's an Intel HD Graphics card, with an nVidia Graphcs Renderer on it. As soon as I found this out, I became very concerned. Intel on-board video cards have had a terrible reputation. As is the case with all Intel on-board cards I have experienced in the past, they did not have dedicated on-board memory, but shared memory from the default system memory in the machine. As far as I have been able to tell, the card does seem to have the 2Gb of on-board memory. At least the amount of available memory seems to be reported as 16GB, per the system specifications. So I am left to assume that this particular Intel card does not share memory with the system, like the others. However, I find it very upsetting that the specs on this machine highlighted nVidia graphics, but failed to inform us of the fact that it was actually just an Intel on-board graphics chip, with an nVidia Graphics Renderer. The system specifications should list that instead. I have not encountered any significant issues attempting to run graphics intensive software with this laptop as of this time. However, I find myself wondering how much faster this laptop would be in those circumstances with an actual NVIDIA card. Buyer Beware! January 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Upgrade from Envy dv7-7310dx I like the upgrade in the processor, and memory. I do not like the keyboard. It is smaller than the Envy dv7. It is not smooth, and easier on the eyes. There are the small details that I like on the dv7 that I thought were incorporated on the 17t-j100.The design on the dv7 were much better thought out. I would trade the weight factor for better design. Like the light on the outside that lets you know it is on. January 13, 2014
