Customer ratings and reviews for HP ENVY 17t-j100 Leap Motion QE CTO Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

Rated 1 out of 5 by overheats under graphics load the laptop seemed like a good bang for the buck & works great for surfing & email. however, i upgraded to the nvidia geforce gt750m with 4gigs of mem and later realized it was money down the drain as the graphics cards overheats within minutes when under load causing the audio & video of the laptop to become unresponsive. hp provided inadequate cooling for the graphics card. also i have frequent problems with the wifi going out where other wifi devices in the same room work fine. i've tried both N & G networks. i'm considering upgrading my wifi card. save you money on the leap-motion. it's neat unfortunately but has no use. Rated 1 out of 5 by Very Big Disappointment I bought one of the original HP envy laptops which I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and performance so when it came time to replace I priced out some pretty high end custom laptops but eventually settled with the latest HP envy because the price and my personal experience with my current laptop. To say I was disappointed with the replacement is an understatement. I purchased the Windows 8.1 upgrade and within an hour I was wiping my hard drive and installing Windows 7. This is not HP's issue obviously but I will tell you with Windows 8.1 this machine performed terribly. I threw in a SSD and installed Windows 7 and its a whole different animal. The performance is fantastic but getting there was another story altogether. One of the things I loved about my first Envy is the software was set up and configured correctly and rock solid. Backing up and restoring was easy. The new laptop, when I installed Win 7 I found getting drivers was a total pain. When it started up, no network adapter drivers, no USB, no sound or graphics. No mouse, no network adapter, couldn't use a USB adapter temporarily to get the drivers because I had no USB drivers. I worked through all these issues so the only real disappointments I am left with are leap motion which is totally useless and the build quality of this laptop which is very cheap compared with my first envy. In a nutshell, setting up this laptop was a traumatizing experience, I find the build quality below standard and leap motion a useless feature. Not the same experience I had with my first HP Envy laptop. April 18, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by good performance..skip the Leap feature the overall performance is solid; the Leap feature is a total waste..it does NOTHING!! Battery life also is not good..maybe 3 hours..For this price, you can get a better computer than this. March 19, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor quality First off, the leap motion technology is next to useless. When I got the computer the space bar wasn't working unless pressed in the exact middle. The quality of the parts was so poor that the space bar would bend on the sides like a flimsy wet noodle when pressed instead of the entire space bar going down to indicate the space button was being pressed. The sound on it is barely audible even though they advertise the "beats" as some great audio innovation. It really seems as though this computer was put together to maximize profits while skimping on quality. It was a really, really bad experience. March 17, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love my new laptop I bought this laptop because it has a combination of the features I want, and the things that excite me. It has the good sound that the Beats Audio speakers give, which I fell in love with from my last laptop, and it has a gorgeous, incredible graphics display that runs even the most demanding games I play with no trouble at all. In addition, it has some extra features that make this laptop a wonderful new piece of technology that I can use to continue learning and growing with. HP has met my high expectations, and exceeded them again. March 12, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by lovelyBUT It looks nice but has problems PROS: Screen is good size and good resolution Backlit keyboard makes work in low brightness areas easier Touchpad seems to accept multitouch gestures CONS: why not 1080p screen at this price Keys smaller than the old 17" HPs and the whole keyboard flexes with each touch Touchpad so unstable that it is never clear what screen will show up next. Leap Motion has no software driver for use as trackpad replacement HP phone help now says leap is only for gaming someday this might change to make it a PRO Too much software preloaded March 11, 2014
