Rated 4 out of 5Â by Lizzies25 HP ENVY 17t-j100 Leap Motion QE CTO Notebook PC
When I was looking for a new computer to replace my old one, I did a lot of research on what I wanted. So when I came upon the HP ENVY line I knew one of them was for me. This PC does have its faults don't get me wrong but I am generally happy none the less. One of the things I was adamant about was a CD-ROM Drive which is becoming even more rare as everything is downloadable, but I am also using this as a gaming/entertainment Laptop, besides for school use. One of the few things that could be fixed is the flex in the computer. It isn't noticeable at first, but you can tell a difference if you type papers and do projects for school. I am currently a college student, but I was wanting a computer that would last for a few years when I get into the professional workplace after I graduate from college. Another thing I particularly find useless is the leap motion, but it is an interesting piece of technology, but fro what I research and have heard it has a lot of bugs that need sorting out before it is actually useful for the workplace for an example with lights and stuff would cause slowness in the senors and different stuff like that.
I have enjoyed the computer so far, but like I said before there could be some improvements that HP could improve on. One thing that bugged me is that HP doesn't do Student Discounts when other Computer makers offer them along with their own discounts but HP discontinued the Student discounts because people were saving more with just plain HP discounts that the student ones weren't needed or so the HP rep told me over the HP online chat. Just to let buyers know the computer ships from china so I ordered it on the 2nd of September, but didn't arrive until the 18th of September. So if you are looking for a fast ship easy delivery then you need to go for a different PC.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by artgeek VERY happy with my purchase!
I was so pleased with my laptop, I don't even know what to say! I purchased a different laptop before this one from a DIFFERENT company, and I was very disappointed with it.
When I started looking in HP, I was looking for something with enough power and quality to fit my needs as a student and digital artist. I did not care about having LeapMotion, because it will not serve a purpose to me, but the rest of the features and specs were important. I was also nervous about switching to Windows 8.
After toying with my laptop for a few days, I am so far extremely happy and even relieved with my purchase! I'm relieved that I am finally away from the old computer that was making my life a lot harder! This laptop can handle all of my adobe software, boots up super fast, opens apps and programs like a breeze, and I haven't had one issue!
Now, like I said, I was not interested in LeapMotion. I was interested in the specs. I have tested out the LeapMotion, though. It was difficult to start up at first. I had to update a few things, and I thought it wasn't working at all. Once working, it was pretty cool. I still don't have a need for it, but it is definitely pretty neat. As far as I can tell, though, it only works on the LeapMotion games, so I really don't see a need for it unless you just want to play a little. I also noticed that if you want to have it read your hand on the far left side of the screen, the LeapMotion loses the signal from you. It's a little wonky, but, like I said, I really didn't need it anyway.
Also, the back of the screen is a bit flimsy. I will definitely be extra careful with this laptop. But for everything else, I'm so pleased, and I would make this purchase again and again!

Excellent computer, all features needed are here. HP was prompt in sending. Have used for 4 months, and ordered one for my wife.

The keyboard is abysmal. You feel the bottom of the keybed, but when the keys are hit slightly off-center, the key press does not always register. This is worst for the most important keys (cursor, delete, escape), which are of course the smallest.
The surface finish scratches easily.
Sound-wise, the "Beatz" audio system does not convince me. With headphones, audio quality is -much- worse than it should be. For example, a decaying piano note grinds noisily into the quantization noise floor, I've never heard anything like that before.
The mouse pad is unergonomic (try to drag something).
CPU benchmark performance is about exactly 50 % of a slightly overclocked state-of-the-art desktop.
With external keyboard and mouse it's OK. The display is great.
All over all, I wish they would take this one back. I'm spoiled by ThinkPad and Elitebook at work, still I've owned much more convincing HP consumer models. Am I exaggerating? Well I had to fix about 15 typos in this text where the keyboard didn't register...

Rated 1 out of 5Â by CSM1 Don't bother with this one..
First of all, could not get the leap feature to work and after spending hours downloading my software and settings, the machine shut off and would not reboot. I returned it. Up until this point, I have always had very good luck with HP products. I have owned many but this is the worst computer I have ever seen. I would not recommend it.
