Customer ratings and reviews for HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

Rated 3 out of 5 by Very dull display colours and difficult touchpad I would like to say that performance wise my 15t-J100 quad edition laptop is awesome. I would list the pros and cons as follows: Pros: 1) It boots up real fast and has strong and excellent WiFi connectivity. 2) Beat speaker output is loud and clear for a laptop speakers. 3)Battery life is great. I get around 5-6 hours of average usage time (of course nowhere close to the claimed 9 hours +) 4)USB 3.0 ports are a boon. I can transfer data from my external hard drive which is also USB 3.0 compatible at blazing speeds. Cons: Now this is important which I sincerely hope HP to look into 1) The touch pad is terrible. Without separate right and left click buttons it is almost impossible to use with single hand. The right and left click buttons are so hard to press. I am forced to press the right/left click with one hand and use other hand to scroll through pages or do text selections in pages etc. I almost stopped using my touch pad and use wireless mouse. Thus without separate right and left click buttons the touch pad is not very comfortable for office applications that frequently involve copying, selecting and pasting text. 2) The display (mine is 1366x768 non touch) is even major thing of concern. Somehow the colors on the screen look washed out and dull. They are no more crisp and vivid. Of course I don't expect the display quality of IPS panels. But a decent minimum level is expected. I have had many other laptop brands in the past with similar 1366x768 screens. They are still look better than the current display. There appears to be whitish cast over all colors. Before this model I ordered one with full HD (1920x1080) display. The colors and contrast was amazing on that one. But the problem was that all elements in windows like icons and text looked very tiny and sometimes fuzzy in few applications due to display scaling issues in windows for high density displays. I returned that one and ordered the current model with standard display. But somehow the display quality of current HP laptops is no more the same as in past models. Finally display shows small pixel boxes on observation. Last but not least, the viewing angles are terrible. Slight deviation from straight look will change color tones badly. 3) The keyboard is not very stable while typing. It kind of wobbles as you type leading to typo errors and slow typing speed. Keys stroke should also have more depth. But the finish and feel of the buttons is really soft and premium. 4) The fan makes loud noise sometimes. Even under normal running conditions you can hear its hum in the background. 5) The screen should have more degrees of backward tilt to compensate for limited viewing angles. This would be helpful if you are standing beside a table and looking on the screen that is below your eye/head level. This would be really a great machine if about aspects are taken care by HP. Rated 3 out of 5 by Good Laptop, except keyboard and battery Pro: 1. Good laptop, thinner and lighter than I thought(I got the non-touch version) 4.8 pounds without the adaptor, the beast audio is very good 2. The touchpad is a big gain. It's big and sensitive. Make this laptop comparable to the Mac experience in some way(the feel of touch feels like plastic instead of glass on mac though) Con: 1. The keyboard feels good for most of the characters. However, for F1, F2,Fx key, est key and delete key(every single key on the top), they feel really cheap. Those function keys won't type at first strike and stuck often, really frustrated by that. 2. The battery is 5 hours of web-browsing. Not even close to 9.5 hours of usage(the advertisement is tricky: who would use a laptop when it's sleep?) March 7, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Wrong and poor performance AC Adapter I am not sure everyone get the same AC adapter....... But according to HP website, this laptop should use 90W AC adapter but the package came with a 120W heavy AC adapter (5.75 x 2.76 x 0.98 in) instead of 90W one (4.92 in x 1.97 in x 1.18 in).... Moreover, the AC adapter is already at low performance after 1 1/2 months of purchase and keep show this message: "The Smart AC adapter connected will power your computer, but potentially at a reduced performance level. you computer is designed to vary performance as needed when a smaller capacity smart AC adapter is connected......." Beside the stupid AC Adapter, everything else are awesome for this computer March 4, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by I hate it! I will be calling about returning it tomorrow! March 2, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by BEWARE- NO TOUCHSCREEN You must watch your configuration like a hawk. The item descriptions on the touch version and non-touch versions are identical. The only indication that this is not a touch is the lack of "TOUCH SMART" in the Title Heading. Very confusing and easy to miss. A simple update to the configuration menu would allow this issue to be avoided. March 1, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great except for touch pad and Win8 This laptop is a fantastic machine except for a couple of items. The touchpad doesn't have buttons so the button clicking is kind of strange and not always accurate. The worse thing about the laptop is Windows 8. Unfortunately I couldn't get Windows 7 so I had to take Windows 8 and the transition from Windows XP is not smooth. Windows 8 is not very user friendly. I've dealt with other Microsoft software upgrades between versions and though most of them have been painful they have still been a step towards better workflow after getting used to them but I have yet to see this in Windows 8. Get Windows 7 if you can. February 18, 2014
