Rated 4 out of 5Â by bracketologist Overall, great value for the price, but...
For the price and optional features, this laptop is hard to beat. It met all of my criteria - ability to order one customized to have the hardware combination I prefer (which some manufacturers are starting not to allow), easy access to upgrade internal parts like the hard drive and the wireless card, and the lack of proprietary buttons which allows for the easy installation of Windows 7 without worrying about the lack of hard-to-find drivers (yes, I'm one of those who doesn't like Windows 8!).
However, I should point out two drawbacks:
- First, the 15-inch model does not have a built-in optical drive. This is not as much of a big deal nowadays since you can use USB drives to install software, but it would have been nice for it to be there. On the other hand, not having an internal one might save a little on power consumption and I can always buy an external one if I need it.
- Second, and more importantly, the screen is not as good as what I've seen from other manufacturers. The viewing angles are subpar. It's fine horizontally, but vertically, the picture has tendency to wash out if the screen is not close to being level with your line of vision. If you are familiar with an IPS screen (which this laptop does not have), you know that the viewing angles can be much better.
My suggestion - visit a store and take a look at the screen closely. If if looks OK to you, then this laptop is a fantastic value.

Stunning graphics. Blazing fast. Light, and looks great. I've been out of the game for awhile in regards to laptops. I was using a 10 yr old one before this workhorse came into my life. I custom built it hp.com and took every possible upgrade. It doubled the cost of the computer but dang it's worth it. Excellent game play tons of ram tons of hard disk space. Get it.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Kami75 Great computer for the price!
This is a very powerful machine. Also, in contrast with the previous models like ENVY dv6, the building quality of this model is almost acceptable. Don't let the negative comments makes you hesitated, since most of them are applicable to all notebooks from all brands: someone don't like Windows 8, somebody complains about the display quality and expects an IPS display for a $700 notebook, and so forth. Also consider to the HP's great support which cannot be find in other brands. Thank you HP!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Kristin03 Great laptop for school and games
I am very pleased with this product. I highly recommend potential buyers to check into all of the great upgrade options that are offered with this laptop. Upgrades I chose include the 4800mq processor, full HD display, the NVIDIA graphics card, and a back lit keyboard. These upgrades are affordable and in my opinion, allow you to make a truly cutting edge machine. The display on my laptop is beautiful. The battery life is sufficient for all day use. My laptop runs extremely fast, and does not get warm while running multiple programs or gaming. Could not have asked for a better product, or a better value. I had very high expectations for this computer, and it completely exceeded them. I would recommend this product a thousand times over, just make sure to consider upgrades, like a back lit keyboard, for a truly luxurious experience.
