Customer ratings and reviews for HP 50g Graphing Calculator

Rated 5 out of 5 by Very useful calculator I have been very satisfied with this calculator. It does all the scientific-calculator things, as well as graphing, including expressions that are not solved for y. The integration and differentiation work very well, and the complex mode can be very handy. A great calculator. July 27, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by HP 50g I own a HP 21, 12c platinum, and a 30s. The HP 50g is by far the most powerful and capable unit of all. Most likely more powerful to all but a few, yet not always the easiest or fastest one to use. Getting use to key positioning takes a little practice to become accustom to it. Although R & P functions are easy to set up, I really wish they appeared on the keyboard. I can my HP 21 in the dark and see the display! A back light display would be nice for poor lighting conditions. Yes my 34 year old HP 21 stills functions flawlessly! I hope the HP 50g will last as long! June 9, 2009
Rated 3 out of 5 by Back to the drawing board! Like many of the other reviewers, I have been a long-time HP calculator user and fan, about 25 years. I have owned several HP48s, an HP10b, and a HP17b. Just recently purchased the 50g. While it is obviously a very powerful calculator, I was disappointed overall. I didn't really notice at first, but the display is a different color. The 48GX is easier to see/read under many different lighting conditions, not so with the 50g. I agree with the other reviewers also about the placement of the keys. I understand that HP was trying to pack more into this device by incorporating menus but it is still very difficult for regular users of the 48G(X) to get use to the changes. ENTER key needs to be put back where it was and should be bigger (than on 50g). Looking forward to the next iteration of this classic calculator. Hope HP engineering is reading these reviews! Rated 5 out of 5 by If only... HP would convert the 50g to an iPhone app. For that matter, port any of their scientific/financial calculators to the iPhone! It's a great calculator, all the necessary features and a lot of unnecessary ones for an engineer and business person. I love it, but it doesn't justify a place in the bag or briefcase when I am out of the office. January 7, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Engineering Tool As far as I understand this is the most powerful calculator on the market. I am a civil/structural engineer. I have been working with HP calculators my entire carrier (almost 11-years). I have used the 50g to check structural and hydraulic PC software calculations; I have also used it as a data logger for structural assessments and GPS surveys. The serial port is not a true RS-232, it does not provide power to the device you connect to, that limits the type of external equipment you can connect to. However, overall it is a great tool for engineers. October 7, 2008
Rated 4 out of 5 by could be better The calculator is packed with features. I am a surveyor an dlong time hp calculator user. it is very powerful, but i miss the fact that i could type 10 keys without looking at the display like my 48GX or SX. the sd card makes it very versatile, because i sell survey programs for the 50G. the two major turnoffs are 1] not used to small ENTER key, and 2] the keys could ba a little more like the 48GX. Othe rthan that it's a great machine. September 18, 2008
