Customer ratings and reviews for HP 50g Graphing Calculator

Rated 5 out of 5 by The best handheld calculator If you need power and versatility, this is the calculator to buy. I use it for applied mathematics / statistics applications on the field and before moving to the full computer assisted analyses in biological sciences. A lot of contributed packages can be installed and you can go from chemistry to statistical power and other analyses. Great machine I have always on hand. May 4, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by Superb calculator! I have been an HP calculator user and fan since the mid-1970s, when I got my HP-45. Since that day, I have been collecting HPs, like many other HP enthusiasts, including the 67, 97 and 41CV. In the years since I have also bought and used calculators by Sharp, Casio, TI and some rather obscure brands. For me, nobody compares to an HP! These many years later, and with my line of work in standards-based product safety testing, I decided it was time to buy a modern programmable HP. After weeks of research I was again led to HP's top-of-the-line model, the HP 50G. After deciphering the somewhat cryptic terminology this model uses for programming (I have not previously been exposed to the RPL machines), I am delighted to find that HP still makes the best programmable scientific calculator. I added a 512MB SD card and almost everything is excellent. I have only one complaint: The user documentation, in many cases, is obviously written originally in a foreign language. While that is not a problem in and of itself (everyone deserves a calculator of this quality), the fact that the translation to English is poor in some cases, and has not been corrected since this model's introduction, is alarming and disappointing. I know HP calculators are no longer designed and manufactured in Corvallis, but can we at least have manuals for top-of-the-line hardware in proper English? For that matter, proper grammar in any supported language is appreciated by any customer in their respective regions. Please! February 26, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product. Does not disappoint General I was surprised at the power of this calculator. The User RPL language is quite rich and allows you to easily write interactive programs with nice menus, etc. Keyboard feel is very good, having the same tactile feedback as my HP 45 and HP 25, but the keys have a little less travel distance. Key pressure is slightly higher than the HP 25. Display is excellent. Complex number support is nearly seamless. I have not experimented with this calc in Algebraic mode, so cannot comment. Handles real numbers up to the 499th power. CAS support is very good, and gives some surprising abilities when it comes to extreme calculations. Cons The keyboard is busy, as is the bane of most high-end calculators, and I wish it had the classic HP double-wide ENTER key, which was recently revived with the new HP 35S. Overall, I'm very pleased with this calculator. It represents a major step toward the return of HP as the legendary "King" of calculators. February 3, 2010
Rated 2 out of 5 by What happened to RPN? I used to have the 28S and I was very happy with it - I especially liked the solver menu and the way I could enter equations in RPN mode. I did not care too much for the graphing features, but I like (need) graphing calculators anyway because I have to see the stack. But my 28S died and I had to replace it - I figured the 50g has all the features and then some and that it therefore would be just as good. But, no, I now have to enter equations in some kind of algebraic mode where the 50g tries to guess what I am writing. It just does not work. I am also having trouble with entering numbers such as 1.0079 (it often becomes 1.079) but maybe there is a solution to this problem somewhere in the 800-page manual. October 26, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Had HP50G for over a year now This calculaor is awsome for the price. I tried a TI-89 and the stupid thing didn't even have basic calculator functions on the keyboard without scrolling thru a menu. The HP50 has it all and the SD memory is great. I have read some complaining but I think it is just that. I can't believe HP does not push this calculator more and support it in the area of education. They let TI take the grade school market and now even in the Enginnering schools TI has taken over. If saving HP "face" is not enough the HP calculators are actually better (or at least could be). You can get one of these babies for less that $100. I am considering buying a spare. Thanks HP. Now, all I need is a rugged pocket size and I would be SO HAPPY. THANKS AGAIN HP. This calculator ROCKS!!!!!!!!! September 8, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by wish it would be available on the iphone i always buy the best high end calculator on the market - now it is time to offer it as an app for the iphone - the programming language is amazing - extremely powerful and fun to develop with .. August 19, 2009
