Customer ratings and reviews for HP 12C Financial Programmable Calculator

Rated 5 out of 5 by shocked I was shocked when, perusing HP printers via an add on my e-mail, I wandered around to look into calculators, just to see what was up etc. When I scrolled down to see if the 12C was still around after seeing all the photos of the newer, cheaper models that are out today,I was amazed to see the 12C exactly as it was in 1983 when I purchased mine. What an awesome little calculator it is. buttons, display, battery life, all perfect. In a way, it's like the shark or the cockroach, in that the evolutionary line seems to have reached a perfection of sorts. Mine still works great when I use it; and my manual, although bound with duct tape, is still as helpful as ever. December 3, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by The "Energizer" of Calculators This thing just keeps working! I bought mine in 1984 or 1985, I reconcile my checkbook, calculate all the refinances, etc. and I have yet to replace the battery! This thing just works and works and works. The other great thing is that the shape fits very well in your hand and it is very easy to hold the calculator and press the keys with your fingers. I have never had a case where I pressed a key and did not have it register as I have on some calculators with weak key pads. I also like the slip on case. I have copied some of the pages from the manual for operations I need to perform, like calculate mortgage payment, fold them up and just stick them in the case with the calculator where they are always handy. Great product HP! November 26, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by The best and only calculator The HP12c is the best and only calculator I use in my architectural practice. I bought one in 1979, made in the USA, and have replaced its batteries only once. I painted all the gold plating and lines black to make the face of the calculator look simple, less nouveau riche regal. I always paint my name and telephone number in thick gobs of paint. The telephone number has changed though the calculator continues to perform well I own two more 12Cs, the original one I keep it at work, the second one in my home office, and third is the spare for the briefcase if I have to go on the field. I have given many away as Christmas presents. Architects are not numerically inclined, but I have impressed more than one client for the simplicity in performing complex budgetary projections. I paid $120 for the first one. Perhaps, $79.99 for the third one, though the price is trivial when I think of the billable hours it has brought into my practice. My wife hates it because it does not work like a regular calculator, which is a virtue, since I know she will not borrow it under any circumstance. Any improvements? I would love to design a simple face for it, but would not change a function. Maybe introduce a few energy and insulation functions. April 29, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Best I have been using my five HP 12C's since I first bought one in business school in 1977. It's still going strong and requires only the occasional change of batteries and it just keeps on keepin' on... Great functionality, great performance, and great reliability. An ICON in my life from HP. I keep one handy at all my locations: at home by my computer, at work on my desktop, in my travel briefcase, at my offices in China and Japan... Truly a "must have" piece of equipment for business people. A great piece of engineering by the genius work force at Hewlett Packard... Thank you HP ! December 7, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by The calculator that never dies HP seemed very ahead of it's time when they created this because it has been around for so long! I remember when I was little my Dad had a 12c and I hated using it to do simple elementary math because it confused me, now flash forward to18 years later and I bought one of my own for graduate school and he still has his! Very impressive for a product to be so helpful and last so long at the same time! I highly recommend it! November 22, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by The absolute best product (of any kind) I've ever I bought my first HP 12C when they first came out. I have taught RPN and stack archiecture to many, many people. It's the way to go. RPN makes calculations very easy. The battery life is fantastic - Mine once went 5 years and 2 months before needing replacement. (I actually kept the dates of replacement in the case). October 16, 2009
