Customer ratings and reviews for HP USB 3.0 3005pr Port Replicator

Rated 1 out of 5 by Does NOT WORK as advertized I can NOT recommend the HP USB 3.0 3005pr Port Replicator. The problem is that the HP USB 3.0 3005pr Port Replicator "DOES NOT" live up to HP's claims and description. 1) There is a "Chronic Issue" with the Display Port making it unusable. 2) The LAN Port only works at 100 MB speed, NOT at 1 GB as advertised. I have used the device for just over 12 months now. I had hoped that by now that software updates would have fixed the two major issues. I have applied the latest software updates and the issues still persist. My unit was replaced by HP once when the original unit become unusable. The replacement has the same issues but is more stable. The Display Port on the HP USB 3.0 3005pr Port Replicator has a chronic problem of blinking in and out, the screen can go blank for minutes at a time. The HDMI Port on the HP USB 3.0 3005pr Port Replicator works OK. The LAN port on the HP USB 3.0 3005pr Port Replicator works only at 100 MB connected to the same router port and cable that always works at 1 GB when hooked directly to my HP ENVY dv7 Notebook PC. Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid Product I purchased this product to connect my second external monitor, a HP 2311x (1080p) monitor, to my laptop, a HP Envy dv6 with Windows 8, in order to create a tri-monitor display. This product performs well and takes about 2% of my processing spread without moving images and up to 30% with a Blu Ray Movie (I have an AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics with AMD Radeon HD 7660G + 7670M Dual Graphics). In addition to my monitor, I have a mouse plugged into this replicator. I have minimal to complain about for this product. Occasionally, the monitor will loose signal from the replicator, but that can be fixed by unplugging the USB and re plugging it into my computer (with an update from DisplayLink's website, the occurrences of this has decreased so make sure to update your software). Also, when my computer falls asleep, the replicator with cause the monitor to power cycle continuously while my other monitor just falls asleep. My only other complaint is that when your computer is off, the replicator cannot be used as a charging station which would have been nice. Otherwise, for the purpose of getting another monitor hooked up, this product is fantastic. I would definitely make this purchase again. See the picture caption for details on my connections. Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointing Let me start off by saying that I'm no computer wiz. I just like to use my computer and have it work without needing to get help. I'm a die hard HP fan. To start, the replicator needed a different cable to connect my HP 2211x computer monitor. My husband had to dig and dig to find one. Setting it up was beyond my capabilities because it required some finagling by my computer wiz husband. It consistently makes the screen go black and changes the background to black. Sometimes it makes the background pictures different sizes. Nope, I'm not doing anything weird. This port replicator is VERY FRUSTRATING for an average user. I've used a port replicator before and never had to call in husbandly tech support to make it work. I would not buy this particular port replicator again. I like stuff that works without struggle. This product is a struggle every time I use it. October 4, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by expensive usb hub First off I am a devout HP fan. Their products help me make a decent living. That said, this thing is virtually worthless. The Last port replicator I had from HP was awesome and did everything it was supposed to. Not the case here. The HDMI cable connectivity to external monitor is worthless, it won't even generate a complete picture on an external monitor set to clone, let alone something tricky. You can only run external monitor plugging directly into the lappy. Kinda defeats the point! It doesn't recognize both my printers, has only 4 USB ports, but worst won't turn on or off the lappy when connected, [have to do that on the laptop itself.] Save your money. September 11, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Mis-advertised product I purchased this replicator in order to connect 2 32" HDMI monitors to my newly purchased HP Envy TouchSmart m7 laptop. The DisplayPort doesn't detect either one of my 32" monitors and the only way I can connect 2 monitors is by connecting one to the HDMI port on the back of the port replicator and the other on the HDMI out on my laptop which totally defeats the purpose of the port replicator. HP advertises this port replicator as "Supporting Dual Monitors" as long as you install the DisplayPort driver for Windows 8. It doesn't work!! And BTW, HP Support is the worst. I spent 2 hours being transferred between laptop support and accessories support and no one knows this product. This is the reason that we are a Dell dealer and not an HP dealer. I wouldn't recommend a HP desktop, laptop, server or any peripheral if my life depended on it. Very disgusted overall. Been in the IT business for over 42 years and never seen a support operation so poorly run. July 30, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Quirky connection I use this to connect to a ProBook 4440S running Windows 7. I have a DVI to DISPLAY adapter for the video, mouse, printer, keyboard and network into the port replicator. to work properly, I have to start the PC and then plug in the port replicator after I get the logon screen or the video won't work. Another issue is the Intel 3.0 Advanced driver - If I reboot the PC with the port replicator installed, the PC will not recognize the port replicator! to fix this I uninstall the Intel Advanced driver from the PC and all is good again. I can reinstall the driver and it will work until I reboot the PC with the port replicator connected. Strange... Something is not right here. June 18, 2013
