Customer ratings and reviews for 8 Cell Battery 4.4Hr

Rated 4 out of 5 by Three plus years I've had my DV9700 a little over 3 years. I use it as a desktop replacement 90% of the time. This laptop is used every day while plugged into A/C for at least an hour. When NOT being used as a portable, it is left in hibernate mode and is plugged into A/C 100% of the time. The other 10% is on portable battery power. About 2 years into its use, I noticed that the original battery operating time had dropped (power setting set to POWER SAVER) to about 50 minutes from its original 2 hour plus operating time. This two year usage was strictly Internet browsing with no CD/DVD usage. After reading the battery reviews here, I decided to experiment with the original battery and battery charge. I changed the power setting to HIGH PERFORMANCE and starting with a 100% charge, left the laptop on (NO external power) until it it shut off itself due to low battery. I then plugged it in and recharged it to 100%. I repeated this cycle 3 times in succession. By the way, this is NOT recommended for Lithium-Ion batteries as it is stated (in several battery articles) that they do NOT develop a memory effect. Leaving the power setting on high performance, I then used the laptop, again for Internet browsing. I was surprised to find the user time had increased to just under 2 hours. I have now been using the original battery for an ADDITIONAL 14 months (in exactly the same usage patterns as before) except that it is now used exclusively in the high performance mode. The original battery operating time is now down to 1 hour 40 minutes. Go figure. Just an FYI for those of you concerned about the DV9000 battery cost, I suggest that you may want to subscribe to the HP newsletter, and review the DV9000 battery (AG08) info periodically, wink, wink. Rated 1 out of 5 by Like burning money This thing is terrible. I bought one after the original battery perished (less than 2 years) and then it lasted about a year. I get a 0% charge. I even let the thing run all the way down once in a while. Just terrible. For this much money, I will be looking to buy a different laptop and give this thing to my 3-year old. March 9, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Worse Battery Ok, First I've gone thru TWO of the batterys one being the original and the second the replacement one given out from HP. The second was just as bad as the first, maybe even worse. Makes having the PC almost not worth it January 23, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor Performance When new, the battery would not last more than 10 minutes. January 2, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by PERHAPS I MADE A MISTAKE! I have no problems with the computer itself. However the battery supplied makes the whole thing a very large disappointment. I realize this is a large laptop, but the battery went from just over an hour to not even being able to boot up in six months. This is neither reasonable or acceptable. I like the machine but I may decide to look elsewhere in the future. December 15, 2010
Rated 1 out of 5 by Works great...at first! The battery works great for 3-6 months then converts this laptop into a desktop. Of course I don't know of any alternatives so I'm stuck with it anyway. November 26, 2010
